Hair Sensation Experiment

Simple Sense Experiment
Materials you will need:

• Yourself or a friend
• A blind fold (optional)

This is such a simple sensory experiment.

hair brushing

Steps

1.  You can either do this experiment on yourself or a friend, but try doing this on yourself first..

2.  Hold out your left arm (if you are right handed).

3.  Close your eyes.

4.  Very carefully take your right hand over your extended left arm.

5.  With your index finger positioned close to the hairs on your arm without actually touching your arm; move your finger very slowly along your arm so that it just touches the ends of the hairs.

Can you feel that?

6.  Now try this experiment on a friend and watch their reaction as you gentley touch the hairs on their arm without actually touching their skin.

Even though your finger is not touching your skin you should be able to feel the sensation of a very light touch.  The hairs that are touched move and the base of the hairs send the signals to your brain so that you can feel the slightest touch.
