Bouncing & Reflecting Light Experiment

Bouncing Spotlights

Materials you will need:

• Ball
• Mirror
• A dark room
• Torch or flashlight

Steps :

1.  Lay the torch / flashlight on its side on a table in a dark room (switched on).

2.  Hold a mirror in front of the torch.

3.  Where does the beam of light shine? Is the light beam where you thought it would land?

4.  Now place the ball close by the torch / flashlight and try moving the mirror to see if you can get the spot of light to reach the ball.

5.  Continue using the mirror and try to get the light spot to hit different objects in the room.

When light hits shiny surfaces like a mirror, it can bounce off and travel in different directions.
